UK Singer-Songwriter Hohnen Ford Delivers Second Single “Send Me A Sign”
UK singer-songwriter Hohnen Ford shared her second single “Send Me A Sign,” alongside the announcement of upcoming EP, Infinity. The latest release follows July’s single of the EP’s title track.
Coupling delicate piano arrangements with clean, seemingly effortless vocals and honest lyrics, “Send Me A Sign” reflects on the unpredictability of early adulthood. Interchanging serious, heartfelt sentiments with humorous, lighthearted comparisons, the outcome is a relatable commentary on the lack of clarity everyone seems to experience as we all slowly realize no one actually knows what they’re doing. Just me? Nevermind.
Speaking more on the lyrical inspiration of new single Hohen Ford says, “I wrote tens of verses for this song, examples of things I felt/ feel useless at – like getting things right. I’ve always felt so messy in love and life, this is a reflection of the rollercoaster that is being in your early twenties.” Opening with the lyrics “Send me a sign if I’m on the right road / it’s the fuckiest day and my mind might implode,” the candid honesty shines through immediately. Progressing through her reflection, not everything remains so bleak. The track comes full circle, closing with the lyrics “I found a sign that I’m where I should be / it was here all along, it was right next to me / bored of the waiting ‘til it’s the right time / so I’m taking my fate and I’m making it mine.”
Hohnen Ford is the solo project of singer-songwriter Ella Hohnen-Ford. A native of North London, by way of a brief stay in San Francisco, it was the latter where a next-door neighbour introduced her to her first instrument, the flute. From there, music seeped into Hohnen Ford’s world from almost every familial angle. An introduction into the world of Northern Soul came via her father; her mother flooded the house with classical piano pieces and the family has leaned into music’s healing qualities by reciting a grandfather’s favoured jazz repertoire to help him find calm in the stormy waters of dementia. Hohnen Ford’s path almost inevitably led to the doors of The Royal Academy of music where she studied Jazz Voice (one of the few young women to do so). A self-confessed explorer, her ambition is to “fill rooms around the world with people who want to be there, making them really feel something so they get lost in the music”.
Hohnen Ford’s debut EP Infinity is set for release on October 28th via Young Poet. Infinity was written and produced by Hohen Ford, features writing collaborations with Matt Maltese, and was mixed by Tom Carmichael.
