Toronto Singer-Songwriter Jae Amends Explores Unconditional Love On Stunning New Single “Waves”

Having spent the last seven years or so touring with alt-pop band HIGHS, Toronto-based songwriter Doug Haynes wanted to shift his focus to more introspective songwriting. Performing as Jae Amends, Haynes released his debut solo record ii, Eternity earlier this month, using music as a vessel to reflect on his childhood and familial relationships.

From the release is the neo-folk offering “Waves”, a letter of sorts to his father as he reflects on the hardships while coming to terms with the concept of unconditional love for a parent.

Drawing from notable influences such as Bon Iver, Frank Ocean, and Dijon for a stimulating mix of vocal effects and ethereal instrumentation, “Waves” creates an aura of introspection and growth. Its serene and gentle opening eventually shifts into an electronica powerhouse of sound and emotion.
