German Indie Pop Artist BOWIE Readies Upcoming Debut EP ‘The Upside Down’ With Self-Love Anthem “XO”
After leaving Berlin for Los Angeles to immerse herself in the music industry, indie pop artist BOWIE found herself feeling disappointed and disillusioned by the culture and expectations as a young female artist. “Somewhere in my mid-twenties I realised that I had spent more of my life criticizing myself than loving myself“, she shares.
With her debut EP The Upside Down due next month, BOWIE has shared her first single “XO”. London Grammar, Daughter, and Florence + the Machine come to mind as she flaunts her explosive vocal abilities and lush pop songwriting style. Rhythmic and percussive, the song has a driving momentum that builds with BOWIE’s expressive performance.
Contrary to today’s usual production methods, “XO” was recorded live in one piece with piano and vocals, a live performance from the beginning to the end – as a contrast to the vocals of many modern songs, which are partly cut together from single syllables and edited to perfection.
With a strong spirit and message, “XO” is a commanding single that calls out the misogny and sexism that runs rampant in the music industry.
