UK Rapper HEN$HAW Shares New Video For Viral TikTok Track “Chalk And Cheese”
As the current state of the world continues to add to the list of growing concerns, the next generation is continuing the tradition of using music to capture how the public feels about it all. The UK in particular has been drawing attention with their political instability, including having their previous Prime Minister Liz Truss departing after a mere 50 days in office, amongst other socioeconomic issues.
Much of the UK rap scene has evolved around the varying issues over the years, and “Chalk and Cheese” from Camden rapper HEN$HAW is no different. This time coming from the viral corners of TikTok, as a verse of his new single garnering hundreds of thousand of listens just days before Truss’ resignation.
A drum n’ bass-inspired punk hit, the punchy and lively new single intends to emulate the frustrations that the youth feel about the current state of their country.
Off his forthcoming debut EP SITTIN’ IN THE DARK, “Chalk and Cheese” is a captivating party-riot starting single. About it all, he shares:
“I also wanted to have fun and show the side of us that gets demonized so much in the press, which I feel like is lacking right now in the UK music scene. I’m not into politics nor am I a political artist, but I feel like the rich and powerful people in this country shouldn’t be telling the poor and working class how to run their lives.
This is clear when they haven’t actually seen or experienced the troubles everyday people go through, so how could they begin to understand the struggles? I’m not surprised this tune took off on tiktok, even though I posted the snippet off a whim. People have been pushed to feel angry and somewhat rebellious, and I think this song resonates with a lot of those people”.
The DIY music video, which was shot and edited in less than 24 hours, is a flashy and fast-paced visual that captures the feel of being young and wild in the UK.
