Swedish Singer-Songwriter Freyr Returns With Haunting New Single & Video “Abandoned Places”

Swedish alternative folk artist Freyr has returned after almost two years with his new single and video “Abandoned Places”. The first taste of music since his 2021 debut album Nicotine Bunker, the new release is a melancholic call-and-response about fighting with the voice inside one’s mind.

“Everyone can relate to the feeling of wanting to do something, but the voice in your head tells you, ‘This is not a good idea’,” Freyr admits. “It’s the angel on one shoulder and the demon on the other.”

Steady folk instrumentation gives the foundation for Freyr’s warm vocals to flow freely, while a deeper, unsuspecting duet partner seeps into the verses. Despite the hints of negativity, “Abandoned Places” and its accompanying visual keep things bright and rhythmic.
