Vancouver Alt Pop Act Royal Oak Push Past A Break-Up With Addictive New Single “A Song For Ya”
Vancouver-based alt-pop group Royal Oak have been releasing a handful of hit singles over the last year or so. Having written a strong collection of tracks during the pandemic, the four-piece have been slowly unveiling their work with a larger project in the works. From that pool of music is “A Song For Ya”, the band’s latest and most hook-driven track to date. Inspired by a break-up and the nostalgia of looking back at old memories, “A Song For Ya” is a dynamic and catchy tune that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
“Like many other pop punk bands, we wrote a song about a breakup”, shares bassist Brayson Wong. “My ex always pestered me to write songs about her but that inspiration never came to me ’til now. Be careful what you wish for, though!”
Elaborating further on their sound, the band add, “For this song, we really leaned into the pop punk vibe while still keeping our alt pop foundation. And what’s more pop punk than the bleeps and bloops from your old Super Nintendo? We’d already been experimenting with using video game noises for their fun, nostalgic feel, and that was exactly the vibe we were trying to capture with this song, so they fit right in“.
Finding a balance between their boyband and pop-punk eras, “A Song For Ya” turns a frustrating situation into a lighthearted sing-along track.
