Nashville Emo Rock Group Dad Hats Run From Mediocrity On New Single “RWD”
Nashville based emo rock group Dad Hats are set to release their sophomore album Spill on February 17th. Ahead of the date, the four-piece have shared their latest single and video “RWD”. Combining energizing guitar hooks with dynamic sing-along-ready vocals, the alt-emo group try to hide from the average lifestyle with “RWD”.
Like a truck with only rear wheel drive, RWD is a song about burning out. The varying time signatures, the mountain/valley structure of the song tries to drive home that uncomfortable, exhausted feeling from monotonous work and a lack of sleep. The song ping pongs between lodging loud complaints and quietly reflecting how you lack enough energy to care about anything, even the things that are important to you.
Expanding further on the energy and theme of the track, the band share:
“You show up at the bar and a friend asks you how it’s going. You say “oh, it’s going” or “can’t complain.” But really you want to talk about how you wake up grinding your teeth and fantasize about quitting your job and selling everything you own to go buy a farm. You want to say your only goal on a daily basis is to not die. But you don’t. You just drink your drink.
But, hey, that’s life isn’t it? Sacrifice me to your volcano. I don’t care“.
Filmed in a garage workshop, the accompanying music video drills home the suburbia-emo sound as the band let their frustrations out from their DIY sanction.
