Electronica Duo Sun Lo Share Cinematic New Single & Video “Never Learned” From Upcoming Debut LP ‘Shapes In My Head’
Electronic duo Sun Lo, comprised of Canadian producer ATTLAS and British vocalist Richard Walters, are set to release their deubt album Shapes In My Head on April 28th. Having teased a number of singles over the last year or so, the pair have added to their discography with the new single “Neve Learned”, and its accompanying music video.
The upcoming album is inspired by Kazuo Ishiguro’s sci-fi novel ‘Klara and the Sun’, and like the book, Sun Lo look to explore the relationship between humans and technology. “Never Learned” is a love song written from an AI’s point of view, and delves into the universal idea of reaching out to a loved one.
Sun Lo explains: “Never Learned is a love song about reassuring the person you hold closest to your heart, even when they’re pushing you away and rejecting your words. Again, coming from an AI point of view, it’s a naive look at love and the roles of a relationship, but not dependent on that concept.”
Rich synthesizers and glossy vocal effects add to the tech-forward theme of the track, while its cinematic and mesmerizing music video directed by frequent collaborator Jordan Martin provides a visual match. Filmed at Keepers Pond in Wales, Martin recalls the video’s inspiration:
“I wanted to combine the elements of love, communication and hyperreality and blend them together in an abstract way… Using a process called slit-scanning, used by Stanley Kubrick in ‘2001 Space Odyssey’, we took a single slice of time and stretched it out to create distorted parallel visuals. This process displays time in a completely different way, opening up different ways of interpreting the movements.”
