Alice Phoebe Lou Celebrates Friendship With New Single “Dusk” From Upcoming LP
With her third album on the way, Alice Phoebe Lou has shared the first single, “Dusk” earlier this month. Set for release on March 19th, Glow is an incredibly personal and raw album, with “Dusk” providing a beautiful initial glimpse into Lou’s new material.
Marketing a new chapter and a musical evolution for Lou, “Dusk” highlights love, a topic she’s avoided in the past. “‘Dusk’ is an ode to friendship and feeling the deepest sense of intimacy and care for another person, the kind of friendship that is uncompetitive, based in mutual respect and admiration, full of adventure and possibilities.”
A sultry, lounge-y track, Lou’s crooning vocals are highlighted against the jazz-like instrumentation. As the lyrics describe a perfectly balanced, all encompassing intimacy between two people, the music video shows scenes of everyday lives made more special through the bond of two women. “The world don’t matter while we’re looking at each other” sings Lou, as scenes of the women dancing together and standing forehead to forehead in silence flit across the scene.
With a more candid subject than her past work, Lou says that 2020 had a lot to do with the inspiration for both “Dusk” and her upcoming album. “I spent more time alone than I ever had. I shaved my head. Had an ego death. Fell in love. Had my heart broken. I was a raw little mess. And that was what I wrote about.”
Glow follows Lou’s 2016 self-released debut album, ORBT, and 2018’s Paper Castles. A beautiful track, “Dusk” is available to stream on all platforms, and you can watch the homemade video – filmed on VHS tape – below. Between the video’s nostalgia and her endearing honesty, “Dusk” is certainly a release you don’t want to miss.
