We Were Sharks Have the Answer To Happiness With New Single “Bring Me Down”
Punk-pop is alive and well with Ottawa based We Were Sharks. Their new single “Bring Me Down” has all the staples – punchy lyrics, crashing drums, and electric guitar melodies.
“Bring Me Down” is the story of a toxic person who infiltrates your life and is, you guessed it, always there to bring you down. Guitarist Jason Mooney shares that the song is a call-out to hit that kind of person with a reality check. “Sometimes it can be tough facing a person and calling them out for how they’re actually seen. Sometimes that person doesn’t even realize the negative impact they’re having on someone,” he shares. “‘Bring Me Down’ pulls back the curtain, becomes the call out and tells this person that the charade is over.” With that in mind, it’s almost like the song is the ‘healing medicine’ a toxic person needs to realize the error of their ways.
The band launched a creative (and hilarious) pre-save campaign, complete with a new website, www.letushealyou.today. With the tagline “We can save you, let us heal you” front and centre on their site, for the special price of having pre-saved ‘Bring You Down’ you too can be saved! All the links drove to pre-save the track and the page was modelled after other cheesy ‘healing’ websites to give the full effect. Alongside, there was also a 1-888 number that ultimately had callers directed to pre-save. The cherry on top? The music video ties everything together, starting off in an infomercial style to reveal the band in their matching member’s gard welcoming new members into their fold. With a quick touch/whip of the band jacket, everything is right in the world and you’re good as new!
We Were Sharks are set to release a larger body of work later this year, with “Bring Me Down” and previous single “Shameless” being a part of that project. In the meantime, take a look at their innovative healing ways by watching the ‘Bring Me Down’ video below, and see how you too can be saved!
