Singer-Songwriter Taylor Janzen Stays Afloat With New Single “Push It Down” Alongside North American Tour Announcement

After releasing a handful of singles following her 2019 EP Shouting Matches, Winnipeg singer-songwriter Taylor Janzen has shared her first of the year with the “brain fog” clearing single and video “Push It Down”. Intersecting her vulnerable and personal songwriting with glowing, humble melodies, the new single is true to Janzen’s brand and style, not afraid to express herself through her relatable music, stepping further into her new full-band approach.

Despite it being her first release of 2021, “Push It Down” came to be at the beginning of the initial lockdown in 2020. Janzen explains, “Writing ‘Push It Down’ felt like the mental reset I’ve long needed. Although in hindsight I wasn’t ready for one at the time. It came together by myself in my room — about my rapidly declining mental health amidst my quarantine-induced brain fog — then immediately put it away and forgot about it. The song is about grasping at anything to feel better, and in the process enabling all my unhealthy tendencies… things like not taking accountability when I’m wrong, impulsive behaviours, isolating myself, refusing to do things that are good for me. A behavior that is unsustainable.”

Nevertheless, there’s an accepting and inviting warmth to Janzen’s voice and lyricism, following suit to the likes of Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, lead by her glowing chorus of “sooner or later, it all comes out”.
