Electronica Artist Luke Petruzzi Shares Genre-Melting Single “I Lost You” Ahead Of New EP
San Francisco-based indie artist Luke Petruzzi produced his new single “I Lost You” from his studio apartment, surrounded by his collection of synthesizers and drum machines to facilitate his daily ritual of music production. Inspired by a blend of electronic artists from Four Tet, James Blake, and TroyBoi, Petruzzi has developed a distinct and soulful palette.
On the conception of “I Lost You”, Petruzzi shares: “I Lost You is about the cycle of remembering and forgetting our connection to oneness with the universe. Remembering that our personality and personal story are only one level of our existence – everybody is all at once a person, a timeless soul, pure energy – it just depends how we’re looking at it. At times where we get lost in the dramas of everyday life, it helps to remember that it isn’t so serious, and everything is part of something much greater.
I created the song on a day I was feeling a little lost and without love. I was in an airport waiting for a flight, and opened my laptop to a session I had started a while back with guitar and some sparse drums. I layered an idea for the vocal samples and began writing lyrics about that lost feeling of connection, and the song was born.”
His dispirited inspiration comes through in the whispering vocal chops, balanced out by striking percussion and glitching synthesizers. Bringing forth his influence from James Blake, Luke makes space for his reverb-filled, soulful vocals to walk in and out of the track.
Listen below, and stay tuned for more music from his sophomore EP Inconsistent out October 15th.
