Alt-Pop Artist Jake Knox Turns A Dark Time Into Energizing New Single “Jake Is Dead (Head Underwater)”
Jake Knox has spent a number of years working with the likes of Bipolar Sunshine and The Knocks, allowing his alt-pop sound to branch out into new directions. His latest single, “Jake Is Dead”, veers back into the world of alternative rock with its explosive energy, as Knox finds the strength to climb out of a dark time in his life.
“‘Jake is Dead’ is a song I wrote at one of the lowest parts of my life”, Jake begins. “I was sitting on the side of the road in the middle of one of the biggest depressive spirals in my life. Everything seemed to fall apart and I felt like I was faced with two choices. One darker choice, and one choice to go and try and write my thoughts in a song. Writing the song was the option that saved my life“.
With his upcoming album of the same name on the way, “Jake is Dead” opens the gates for Jake’s most personal and honest songwriting to date. Despite its darker themes, the new single is an energizing and anthemic song that balances reflective storytelling with big hooks and dense instrumentation.
Elaborating further, Jake adds, “The song is about where we go when dealing with lower than low thoughts that might lead to bad decisions. It is just a snapshot of my story in the middle of it, but hopes to serve as a companion to others going through the same thing”.
