Joel Plaskett – If There’s Another Road (Music Video)
Juno award-winning singer-songwriter Joel Plaskett is celebrating his 45th birthday by releasing a 4LP album, each with 11 tracks, aptly titled 44 (41: Carried Away, 42: Just Passing Through, 43: If There’s Another Road and 44: The Window Inn). The boxset release was written over the last four years with contributions by over 33 artists, and is a welcomed collaboration with the ongoing state of the world. Plaskett explains:
“Like most of us, I am shaken and deeply concerned by the crisis unfolding around the planet. As a performing musician, the exchange of energy at live shows has forged a connection with my audience and my fellow musicians. Touring for 25 years has introduced me to the beauty and diversity of Canada and other parts of the world. We are now facing the reality that we won’t be able to congregate in person for a while but this shouldn’t stop us from creating and connecting with each other in the ways we can. Despite the tour being rescheduled to the fall (with many fingers crossed!), 44 will still be released on April 17th. This physical separation we face is immensely challenging but we remain connected in ways we cannot see or touch. Music has, and always will be, a meaningful part of that invisible connection.”
The third single from the collection is “If There’s Another Road”, a beautiful mandolin-driven song that showcases Plaskett’s genuine songwriting ability and passion for storytelling. As he sings the chorus of “If there’s another road to travel down / I haven’t found it / looking for you, I’m lost in the blue / I can’t get around it”, his raw vocals and emotive singing style comes through as he reaches for the falsetto with each run.
