Broken Baby Share Re-Energizing Protest-Pop Song “Manic Panic”
L.A. based duo Broken Baby are a glamorous mix of pop, punk, rock, and disco, not heavily leaning in any given direction, instead enjoying the power of music as both a tool for conversation and a source of engagement. Although they were one of countless bands forced to cancel their upcoming tour, Broken Baby wanted to find a way to connect with fans on their new video for “Manic Panic”.
“Our fans are amazing,” Frontwoman Amber Bollinger says. “We sent out a few messages on social media asking for their help, and we were just overwhelmed by the response. It really moved us. We can’t thank them enough.”
Featuring a handful of devoted fans singing and dancing along, the accompanying music video is a lighthearted celebration of music and community, a perfect match for the song’s dynamic and infectious hooks and energy.
While the song’s outer demeanour is welcoming and fun-hearted, “Manic Panic” was written before the ongoing civil rights movement, but carries with is a relevant message. The band shares, “Music these days has to do more than make you move, you know? It has to raise the alarm bell. This is a song about doing just that.”
With a ringing chorus of “I’ve got a prison and a purpose and a microphone in my hand”, it is an energizing hit using the catchy formula of post-punk and disco to pass along the word.
