slowthai Teams Up With James Blake & Mount Kimbie for Surreal Video “feel away”
Coming off a handful of new singles this year, British rapper slowthai has teamed up with fellow Brits James Blake and Mount Kimbie for his new single “feel away”. While the collaboration seems like an unlikely combination on the surface, the result is a compelling slow-burning track about understanding the doubts and insecurities of a relationship.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the song, slowthai says: This song is about the doubts we have whether it be within friendships, your partner or with our family. It’s about putting yourself in the other person’s shoes so you have a better understanding of the situation.”
slowthai and James Blake alternate vocal duties, switching between lyrically-driven hip-hop versus and the familiar angelic voice of Blake on the chorus, overtop a glistening beat from Mount Kimbie. Contrasting against the song’s ballad tenderness, the accompanying music video is a nightmare-fuelled turn of events that become more and more unfathomable with each watch. In true slowthai fashion, the song’s message is iced with a gut-wrenching, tongue-in-cheek flavour from an artist that continues to capture attention.
