Indie Pop Artist DALE Announces Debut EP With New Single “Treading Water”
Having found success as a musician and producer with a number of rising stars, such as NOTD, kenzie, and Mothica, Will Dailey has quietly been working on his own solo project DALE since 2019. He won Songathon, a 24-hour songwriting competition sponsored by the New York City Mayor’s Office, and eventually headed west for Los Angeles in 2020 to make waves. With a catalogue of music under his belt, DALE has officially announced his debut EP is set for release in 2023.
Alongside the news, DALE has shared his vibrant new single “Treading Water”. Combining pop-punk drums with sing-along pop hooks, “Treading Water” gives angsty insecurities an uplifting quality courtesy of the song’s driving energy.
As DALE puts it, “‘Treading Water’ is ultimately about struggling to find your way in your early-to-mid twenties; about the uncertainty that entails, the self-doubt, and the struggle to not only stay afloat at times, but also know which way to swim.
“I started writing ‘Treading Water’ around this time last year…it’s funny, some songs you write in like 20 minutes, but this one developed slowly over several months. Originally it was about an entirely different concept, but something about that wasn’t sitting right. So I scrapped my initial lyrics and and just started writing about what had been eating at me for the better part of two years. The result was probably the most honest song I’ve ever written.”
Honest and relatable is at the core of “Treading Water”, making it an easy favourite for bedroom dance parties and introspective bike rides.
