Austin Multi-Instrumentalist Bayonne Shares Imaginative New Single “Right Thing”
Austin-based multi-instrumentalist/producer Roger Sellers, also known as Bayonne, has shared his first single of the year “Right Thing”. Pulling together elements of electronica, psych-pop, and indie pop, his imaginative and stimulating new single is lifted from his upcoming third album Temporary Time, and serves as a time capsule for the artist after losing his father to cancer.
Sellers shares, “One of the reasons it’s so meaningful to me is because it was the last song I remember showing my Dad before he passed. In the middle percussive section, I added samples from old home VHS tapes, wherein you can faintly hear him and other family members chattering lightly in the background. I’ll never forget showing him how I implemented these old recordings into the song. He was highly amused by this.”
Drawing paralells to the likes of Tora, Tame Impala, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the expansive and dynamic single hides a sense of melancholy underneath a colourful field of synthesizers and keyboard lines.
Mirroring the playful and detailed musicality of the track, the animated accompanying music video takes the listener to a new universe full of shapes and movement.
